The YMCA NSW Think Tank program is a collection of events that give young people, aged 15-24 years, the opportunity to make a direct impact on issues in NSW through submissions to Parliamentary and Government inquiries and consultations as well as through small-scale action projects. The YMCA NSW Think Tank program hosts two types of events: Policy Working Days and Action Days.
Policy Working Days are day-long forums that empower young people to investigate, debate and come to an agreement on an issue that is currently the topic of a Parliamentary Inquiry or department consultation. Selected delegates are then supported by volunteers to write a submission that outlines the Think Tank’s views and proposes solutions to the issue.
Action Days are day-long forums that empower young people to instigate practical change on an issue they are passionate about. In groups, delegates participate in a training day designed to produce innovative solutions to a range of issues. This will culminate in a presentation to pitch their solution to a panel to seek seed funding from the YMCA to start a short-term program or project (preferably connected with a YMCA centre). The successful group will be supported by volunteers to implement the project or program.

We’re kicking off the Think Tank program with two regional Policy Working Days, focused on the impacts of gambling. The content discussed at these Policy Working Days will shape a submission into a current Parliamentary Inquiry focused on gambling. Further information about this current inquiry can be found here:
